I GOT all tangled up trying on a sweater yesterday – (where’s the other arm, what’s that lumpy bit, is it too long, too short, too tight etc). Outside the roasting hot cubicle I could hear two of the assistants chatting.
One was explaining how she’d been listening to a new app to try to focus on her breath because apparently it would ‘help her calm down.’
The other one was asking with an incredulous tone ‘yeah, but did it actually work?’
Part of me was exhilarated because both women were only about 18.
The other part of me was traumatised – do people REALLY still not FULLY understand the POWER of their breath? For a moment I felt like a total failure, why am I not reaching THESE women with my work? THESE women are the future and potential future parents – and on and on my mind raced.
I can’t say it any simpler than this:
When you feel panicked:BREATHE WITH AWARENESS.
When you feel stressed: BREATHE WITH AWARENESS.
When you feel scared or upset: BREATHE WITH AWARENESS.
When you wake up: BREATHE WITH AWARENESS.
When you want to relax: BREATHE WITH AWARENESS.
When you want to feel ALIVE BREATHE WITH AWARENESS.
When your mind is worrying: BREATHE WITH AWARENESS.
Think this is your last breath: BREATHE WITH AWARENESS.
When you are happy and in love: BREATHE WITH AWARENESS.
BREATHE AND PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR BREATHING.
YOUR breath IS YOUR life force.
With the power of your breath you can calm or stimulate your mind. The breath is the direct route to managing and helping your emotions and powerful energy to flow.
If you want a 5 minute way to get grounded, centred, focused and back in your body – DO THIS.
You don’t need lots of fancy apps or reminders or an algorithm – get present, get in your body, breathe. Pay attention to the breath and feel it enter the body, follow it, and notice when it leaves the body on an exhale. Beats junk TV.
PS – I bought the sweater. There wasn’t a lumpy bit after all.
